Masterpiece Baker Lake Sculpture!  Magnificent Vintage Carving!

BARNABUS ARNASUNGAAQ
was one of the earliest participants in the Baker Lake Carving Program.

The Canadian government established this program in the 1960's.

Barnabus was a print maker but is best known for his carvings.

In fact, he became an internationally renowned and leading figure in contemporary Inuit sculpture.

He is a pioneer in the 1st generation of Inuit carvers and also one of the most highly decorated artists.

BACKPACK portrays a Traditional Baker Lake theme.

A Mother with her Child is a SIGNATURE carving amongst Baker Lake carvers.

This piece has simple beautifully rounded angles; the child seems to be joined to the Mother with no discernable separation between the figures!

The Mother and Child are a single entity.

The warm medium brown accented with a golden yellow colour reflects the peace and calm of the Union.

I am drawn to the Mothers large eyes and wide mouth.

Barnabus understands that young babies are visually focused on the face of their providers.

The theme of Mother and Child has been cherished in art throughout the ages.

Backpack will melt your heart.

This stunning beauty has been carved by one of the most decorated and well known Inuit artists in the world.
